Living Big In A Tiny House

Vor 3 Monate

As an architect, Doug is traditionally used to designing large homes, but when it came to his own house, he decided to go for something different and instead designed and built his own tiny house on wheels.

With his experience in architecture and design, Doug has been able to build an incredible tiny house, which is not only efficient in it's use of space and high performance materials but is practically designed for full time living.

Located in Wanaka, New Zealand this tiny house on wheels has found a truly wonderful parking spot right by the river. Hight house prices in the area have encouraged many to search out alternative living situations and the tiny house movement is now flourishing. The home's off the grid design allows it to be parked and lived in anywhere, with solar power supplying all of the homes energy needs.

These videos make me want to decorate my future home and I told my mum I can't wait to move out and make my house more modern and what I like, since she doesn't like my taste I can't do anything to my own room. She told me " I didn't know you were a snob". I am a bit offended and put down. I kinda feel like a prisoner here, can't wait

The longer and more seriously I consider living tiny (it’s really the ONLY viable option financially here in the Bay Area for me to have any hope of ever having a home at all here).... it’s sadly discouraging to me that legally there aren’t any clear avenues yet for how to achieve this.... it defeats the purpose of having a tiny home- to be at risk of eviction and homelessness if legal issues cause a problem .... so I am still entranced by tours and I have started to seek out information on the legal issues but- at this point I wish ALOT more time and focus would be spent on how exactly every situation is working around the incomplete / missing zoning/coding laws for living full time in a tiny home. They fall somewhere between the cracks still- is it an RV? Or an accessory dwelling? Either way on the book laws still currently prohibit living full time in them most places.... but then it seems like there’s exception to the rules if you actually are traveling- bc no one can say youre not allowed to travel in your “RV” and if you aren’t RV or RVIA certified.... do RV parks ever hassle anyone?? There IS a documentary I really appreciate right now that goes into all this - “living tiny legally” ? I think it’s called.... but I still think there’s a lot of unmet need for this information - And it’s a pretty long documentary it would be nice if others would break it down into smaller pieces as far as content goes- for example, going over All of the various governing bodies who’s responsibility it is to manage building codes..... so who those governing bodies are and/or what the current codes are or what they do and don’t allow.... But the hour long documentary is a very good start and I was heartened to learn that those people the leaders in the industry have made some progress with local municipalities and have done everyone the service of getting some precedents set- so that everyone else who follows has something they can point to to show what can and has worked in other places.... I am still far from owning a tiny home, but the documentary has still inspired me to try to be proactive and now I am curious to try and get in touch with my local municipalities to ask them what the process is or would be if I were trying to get approved for full time living in a tiny home- I really don’t see how they could say NO to tiny homers when municipalities are the ones who have failed in the first place to organize or offer enough affordable housing in the first place- IF they HAD done a good job creating enough affordable housing in the first place- maybe people wouldn’t even be so motivated to build and live tiny?! But anyway- it’s a necessity, and tiny homes are a great solution- so I don’t see how they can really in good conscience shoot down a good solution when it’s cities themselves who have failed their citizens on the issue of affordable housing in the first place. So now Tiny Homers are taking it upon themselves to PAY FOR and FIX the problem and affordable housing shortage- the LEAST municipalities can do is any and everything they can to support these solutions and help them be implemented.

Imagine taking a shower and coming out into winter. Yikes! Worse yet, coming out in a towel in winter and getting locked out of the main house. 😜

Bryce, i don't think you know ( and i hope you never do, because it is clearly a great gift you were given) how much your beautiful manner and vibe, and strong energy means, ; that you listen so attentively and with such heart, and report, contribute in an egoless manner, with joy, and then -- summarize so concisely, and appreciate, ( and please accept my accolades to your cinematographer, and, for the editing!) and when you shake the owner's hand at the end it is a serious "moment" that reverberates... You make me want to shake your hand, one day! That is so not a small potatoes thing... All the best to you, and your partners !

Are some nice elements but I think I expected more since he is an architect. Why would someone want to go outside in winter to use the toilet?

Hmm! Love that movable shelving... Fabulous. A very important pragmatic feature i think, enabling you to shift a lot, and to be responsive to the day., the need, the shape of life. Also, the underfoot map! yes! I can see this concept being applied with old, funky, damaged wood, "wood-fall", if you will, which we should recall is the basis of what the precious incense Palo Santo is... and i see inlaid resin, with rough crystals, etc. Couod even be organite, if you are inclined thst way.... Serving the locsl environment and nit only onself. Resin for floors that light up at night with rivulets...Another form of lighting, for the coming and going... Love your series.

👍Amazing location & view. Very nice tiny house. I like having that map on the floor & like the extra bed setup option. Not too sure about having to access the bathroom/shower/wet room from outside. I agree that having a built in ladder or steps to access the loft bed would be better. 🤔
